Previous Board/Board Committee Actions:

The Board of Supervisors created on February 23, 2021 the ordinance creating Mendocino County Code Chapters 8.77 providing for the abatement of hazardous vegetation and combustible material to reduce fire hazards

Summary of Request

The abatement of hazardous vegetation and combustible material ordinance was intended to reduce fire hazards. There are hazardous situations in the County that need to be addressed especially in regards to absentee owners. Community organizations have received grants for fuel reduction and hazardous vegetation abatement work but the ordinance may need some revisions to implement the projects. Staff will evaluate potential funding sources to complete this work either internally or externally since it will require time. This item should be referred to the February 28, 2024 General Government Committee so that all options can be explored.
