Previous Board/Board Committee Actions:
On February 7, 2017, Resolution 17-019 authorized the Sheriff’s Office submittal of a proposal for funding through the Adult Local Criminal Justice Facilities Construction Financing Program (SB844 Chapter 34, Statutes of 2016) for additional specialty housing and expanded program, training, and mental healthcare space at the County jail and authorized an appropriation for the local match portion of the project of approximately $1.047 million. Subsequently the Board of Supervisors has approved funding increases and changes and on October 31, 2023, accepted the total project estimate of $43,999,800 and authorized contract award to Broward Builders, Inc in the amount of $35,859,000 for construction of the new jail that will serve as a behavioral health wing pending final funding approval by the California Department of Finance.
Summary of Request:
The construction contract with Broward Builders, Inc. and State funding is scheduled to be approved at the end of January by the California Department of Finance at which time the contractor will be issued the notice to proceed for work to begin. Included in the soft costs of the project budget, are the County’s responsibilities for testing and special inspections of the structural elements of the project required by the project plans and the building code. This agreement provides for those services through the duration of the project. SHN Inc. is a local firm that is qualified and submitted the most competitive proposal for these services.

Do not approve the agreement and provide direction to staff.
