Summary of Request:
Opioid settlement funds in California are part of a larger effort to address the opioid crisis resulting from widespread misuse of prescription opioids and illicit drugs. These funds are generated from settlements with major pharmaceutical companies that have been held accountable for their role in the opioid epidemic.
The California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) plays a significant role in managing opioid settlement funds. DHCS is responsible for overseeing the allocation and distribution of these funds to ensure they are used effectively to combat the opioid crisis. This includes guiding local governments, like Mendocino County, on how to use the funds for addiction treatment, prevention, and recovery support programs.
We are requesting to allocate a portion of Mendocino County’s Opioid Settlement funds to support the infrastructure for the newly constructed twenty-four (24) bed sober living dorm located at the Ukiah Recovery Center. This sober living facility is designed to provide individuals in early recovery, specifically those with fewer than two years of sobriety, with a supportive and structured environment that enhances their recovery journey.
The funding will cover essential furnishings for the living spaces, ensuring that the facility is equipped with the necessary items to create a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment. The sober living dorm will include twenty-four (24) hour staffing, and residents will receive outpatient treatment, meals, and support with vocational and educational goal planning as part of the comprehensive recovery program that encourages long-term recovery and personal growth.
Alternative Action/Motion:
Return to staff for alternative handling.
