Summary of Request:
Department of Transportation (DOT) Agreement No. 260013 provides for preliminary engineering and design work, including completion of the project approval and environmental documents (PA&ED), and plans, specifications, and estimate (PS&E), needed for the Covelo/Round Valley Safe Routes to School Project. The project aims to increase pedestrian and bicyclist safety; calm traffic; and improve accessibility of school routes through the installation of sidewalks, curbs, gutters, crosswalks, bike lanes, and other infrastructure methods along Howard Street, County Road (CR) 334D, Airport Road, CR 337B, and Foothill Boulevard, CR 337A, in the town of Covelo, California. Dokken Engineering has agreed to perform the required work for a not-to-exceed amount of $1,101,121. Costs of the project are to be fully funded through the Active Transportation Program (ATP). Future amendments for additional work will be determined based on supplemental funding from ATP. DOT requests the Board approve the DOT Agreement No 260013 with Dokken Engineering in the amount of $1,101,121. Because additional studies or additional field investigations are often identified during design, DOT deems it prudent to authorize the Director of Transportation a 10% contingency of $110,000 to process contract amendments as needed in order to facilitate timely completion of the work.
Alternative Action/Motion:
Postpone approval of DOT Agreement No. 260013.
