Summary of Request:
The Ukiah Main Branch of the Mendocino County Library has a large blank wall to the left of the front entrance. A community group dedicated to improving the Ukiah Branch has worked with Library administration to select a mural from proposals to beautify the wall. The Ukiah Valley Friends of the Library has been awarded a grant from the Community Foundation of Mendocino County to apply towards the $5,000 cost of the mural and will reimburse the Library.
The City of Ukiah’s Public Art Policy encourages public art which enriches the environment for residents and visitors. Please find attached description and design of the mural, as well as a letter from the City of Ukiah Manager in support of a mural at the branch. The selected mural is a fun and welcoming work of art by Dell Linney showing children reading and imagining an adventurous story with fantastical animals. The mural has been approved by the City of Ukiah’s Design Review Board and will next be reviewed by the Planning Commission.
This agenda item is for the Board of Supervisor’s approval of the mural design by Dell Linney. By increasing the attractiveness of our Mendocino County community, this project will help to move towards the Board of Supervisors’ goal of a “Thriving Economy.”
