Previous Board/Board Committee Actions:
June 30, 2023, Purchasing Agent approval of Agreement No. PA-23-118, SS-23-047.
Summary of Request:
Santiago Simental dba Alternative to Violence, provides domestic violence treatment services to Family and Children’s Services clients as part of their voluntary or court-ordered case plans, to support children safely remaining home with a parent, or the reunification of children in foster care with a parent. Alternative to Violence is the only court approved anger management organization in Mendocino County.
Alternative to Violence classes address issues related to domestic violence, providing clients with the basic skills to effectively deal with anger and manage potentially explosive situations nonviolently. The program is taught in English and Spanish, consists of group classes, individual anger management sessions, anger management for children and youth, and partner/victim education, and provides opportunities for clients who have a Child Welfare case to process personal feelings associated with anger and violence.
On June 30, 2023, the County of Mendocino Purchasing Agent entered into Agreement No. PA-23-118, SS-23-047 with Santiago Simental dba Alternative to Violence. Through this Agreement, the Alternative to Violence program has served 78 unduplicated clients between July 1, 2024 and April 30, 2024. All clients are referred to Alternative to Violence as part of their court ordered case plan, and each year this number varies depending on case load and needs of individual clients. As a result, services under Agreement No. PA-23-118, SS-23-047 were under-predicted, and additional funds are needed to cover actual case loads and number of clients.
The proposed Amendment to Agreement No. PA-23-118, SS-23-047 increases the total amount by $12,000, for a new total of $62,000. Original funds and these additional funds come from Federal, State, and Realignment. Once the Amendment is executed it will be effective for the full term of the Agreement, from June 30, 2023 through June 30, 2024.
