Summary of Request

September 15th through September 21st, 2024, is recognized as Child Passenger Safety Week by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and are committed to help protect our nation’s youngest passengers. In the United States, road injuries are the leading cause of preventable deaths and injuries to children. Car seats, booster seats and seat belts have been proven to significantly reduce fatalities in car crashes involving children and with correct usage lower the risk of death by up to 71%. Mendocino County is dedicated to supporting parents and caregivers by providing education on child passenger safety and will join NHTSA in September to observe Child Passenger Safety Week by promoting awareness and education. Mendocino County Public Health (MCPH) offers free one-on-one car seat safety appointments with Child Passenger Safety Technicians (CPST) for residents and children ages 0 through 12. (MCPH) recognizes September 15th through September 21st,2024 as Child Passenger Safety Week.
