Previous Board/Board Committee Actions:
On June 23, 2024, the Board of Supervisors adopted the Master Position Allocation Table for the FY 2024-2025 Budget, Resolution Number 24-098.
Summary of Request:
The Human Resources Department is charged, as part of the overall maintenance of the classification and compensation plan, to evaluate current classifications, create new classifications (including appropriate salary levels), reclassify positions, examine requests for salary grade adjustments, analyze allocations, and make recommendations for additions, modifications, and corrections.
The recent market study revealed the current salary structure did not fully align with the demands and responsibilities associated with the role. The nature of the Animal Protection Officers’ duties often involves potentially dangerous situations, and the need for specialized skills and emotional resilience. These officers may deal with cases of animal abuse, dangerous wildlife encounters, and legal issues.
As a result, Human Resources and the Executive Office have determined a salary revision is necessary to better reflect the value and challenges of the Animal Protection Officer position.
The impact shown below for this fiscal year is calculated at Step 5 during the pay period 21-24 (September 29, 2024) and includes the cost of benefits. The annual recuring cost shown is calculated at Step 5 including the cost of benefits.
