Summary of Request:
While Mendocino County Public Health (PH) owns and operates a general acute care facility, skilled nursing clinic, and various outpatient clinics, Sonoma State University (SSU) operates fully accredited undergraduate and graduate nursing programs. The proposed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between PH and SSU develops a clinical training program available at PH locations, for qualified SSU nursing students. This program provides PH with an opportunity to strengthen the local Public Health workforce via working partnerships, while allowing SSU nursing students to gain invaluable administrative and clinical education and training during their stint with PH. This partnership also increases the chances of SSU students holding a career with Mendocino County in the future.
Public Health developed the proposed MOU and began processing it in September 2023, during which time the MOU became retroactive before submission to the Mendocino County Board of Supervisors for approval. Additionally, the term of the proposed MOU spans five years, through October 15, 2028, which requires Board approval per County Policy.
Alternative Action/Motion:
Return to staff for alternative handling.
