Summary of Request:
In 2019, the California Department of Public Health, Nutrition Education and Obesity Prevention Branch granted Mendocino County $450,000 in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program-Education (SNAP-Ed) funds, for implementing the CalFresh Healthy Living Program through September 30, 2022. The SNAP-Ed grant was amended on October 4, 2022, to include an additional $150,000, and extend the term through September 30, 2023.
Since 2019, the County has utilized a portion of SNAP-Ed funds to continuously contract with Round Valley Indian Health Center (RVIHC) to provide certain SNAP-Ed grant deliverables under the CalFresh Healthy Living Program. Through the proposed Agreement, the services RVIHC will provide include: recruiting a Family Advocate; attending relative meetings, conferences and trainings; providing virtual or in-person education to children, parents and other adults through classes focusing on healthy eating and nutrition, physical activity and exercise, cooking, longevity and brain health; administering pre-and post-surveys to adults participating in a series of 4-classes or more; preparing and distributing a newsletter; tracking and documenting required program specifics; and providing all required reports. All services provided under the proposed Agreement will be in compliance with the California Department of Public Health SNAP-Ed Grant, and will continue through September 30, 2023.
This Agreement is retroactive to October 1, 2022 due to a delay in contract submission and processing, which required prolonged revisions between the County and RVIHC.
