The BOS Energy Audit from December 7, 2021, agenda item 6a, recommended installing battery backup and alternative energy panels at the Willits Branch Library; the BOS approved the grant application for the Willits Branch Library Roof, Alternative Energy Panels, & Battery Back-up Project on April 5, 2022: agenda item 3ac.
Summary of Request:
In times of disaster and hardship, Mendocino County Library branches have often served the public as a place of calm and a source of information for the residents of our County. The Willits Branch Library will be able to provide this more consistently by having leak-proof roofing and battery back-up to provide electricity for lighting, device charging, and internet access. The alternative energy panels will also help to meet the County’s goal of reducing the use of fossil fuels. The Library has been awarded matching funds of $247,040 for the Willits Branch Library Roof, Alternative Energy Panels, & Battery Back-up Project by the California State Library’s Building Forward Library Infrastructure Grant program and the Library Budget Unit 6110 will provide the matching funds of $247,040 for a total cost estimate of $484,080. Once the Board adopts the Resolution to receive the grant funds, the General Services Agency will present an agenda item for project creation with updated project funding estimates.
This grant will support the Board of Supervisors’ priority designation of “A Prepared and Resilient County” by providing a public space that is protected from weather and has battery backup to allow for lighting and other services when there are power outages.
