Summary of Request:
Mendocino County Library offers a wide range of informational, educational, cultural, and recreational materials for checkout and serves residents with six library branches located in Ukiah, Willits, Covelo, Fort Bragg, Point Arena, Laytonville, and other locations with the Bookmobile and the outreach van. The Library has approximately 151,000 physical items which may be checked out by library patrons, of which about 36,000 items have RFID tags. The newest branch, Laytonville, is the only branch that is fully RFID tagged. This project would bring all branches up to date with the modern system of using RFID tags which encode the barcode of each item and make checking in, checking out, and inventorying the items much simpler. Additionally, the current self-checkout computers are very old and due for replacement.
Request for proposal #028-25 was completed for the Library Self-Checkout and RFID Equipment project and resulted in the selection of Bibliotheca for the contract. The first year’s expenses are expected to be approximately $63,100, and the following two years expenses total an additional $105,900 as the project is completed. The contract includes seven self-checkout computers, 23 staff RFID scanners, RFID tags and on-site installation and training as well as support and maintenance for seven years. Library Capital Investment funds have been budgeted for this expense which will bring all library branches’ circulation systems up to date.
