Summary of Request:
The Community Wildfire Defense Grant (CWDG) Program is intended to help at-risk local communities plan for and reduce the risk of wildfire. Authorized by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, CWDG prioritizes at-risk communities in areas identified as having high or very high wildfire hazard potential, are low-income, and/or have been impacted by a severe disaster that affects the risk of wildfire.
The Mendocino County Community Fuels Reduction and Capacity Building project will expand the County’s capabilities to implement aggressive vegetation management and hazardous tree removal throughout the region while building County staff capacity through planning and capital equipment purchases. This is a mitigation measure identified in the County’s 2016 Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) and 2020 Multi-jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan (MJHMP) and the Mendocino County General Plan (GP) for the Development Element & Resource Management Element 2020 Updates.
