Summary of Request

The Board of Supervisors has received correspondence (attached to the item for reference) advocating support for a proposal by retired Anderson Valley Fire Chief Colin Wilson urging that the County address the issue of residential structures located on unnamed roads. These homes may be located several miles from the nearest named road and may require turns onto a series of unnamed roads to reach them which may result in extended response times and delayed service in emergencies. The current options for requiring that existing roads be named are limited and the process is burdensome. Resolution of this issue would reduce delays that result from the confusion associated with unnamed roads and would likely reduce the amount of time local first responders spend in training to locate homes on unnamed roads. The attached proposal offers several recommendations to address this issue. Supervisors Williams and McCowen request that this issue be referred to the Fire and Emergency Medical Services Sustainability Ad Hoc Committee for review and possible recommendation to the Board of Supervisors.

Alternative Action/Motion:

Do not refer the proposal to the Ad Hoc Committee.
