Summary of Request

Mendocino County Board of Supervisors is affirming its support of the Affordable Care Act, including its increased coverage through Medicaid, and the critical role the Affordable Care Act “ACA” plays in the health and well-being of our County and the populations it serves. The ACA has allowed 4,000 Mendocino County residents to purchase insurance through California’s healthcare exchange, often at subsidized rates, and has allowed an additional 11,000 Mendocino County residents to obtain health coverage through the ACA’s increased funding of Medicaid, known as MediCal in California. Repeal of the ACA, with its proposed cuts to Medicaid, would leave thousands of Mendocino County residents unable to obtain health coverage. States, such as California, lack the funding to backfill a massive cut to the Medicaid program, as proposed by Congressional efforts to repeal the ACA.
