Summary of Request

Supervisor Hamburg is requesting that the Board of Supervisor ratify a letter to State Senator Hueso opposing Assembly Bill 1665. This position is based on the Board of Supervisor’s 2017 Legislative Platform to "Advocate for expansion of rural broadband and important issues including adequate funding from state and federal programs such as the California Advanced Services Fund (CASF) and Connect America Fund (CAF) for the deployment of broadband infrastructure projects..." AB 1665 in its amended form excludes rural areas in counties including Marin, Sonoma and Mendocino which is one of the reasons these three counties oppose its passage; other reasons are included in the letter to Chair Ben Hueso and the members of the Senate Energy, Utilities and Communications Committee.

Alternative Action/Motion:

Do not ratify submission of letter.
