Summary of Request:
The Opioid Use and Stimulant Use Prevention and Recovery Services in the LGBTQ2S+ Community, which is defined as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer or Questioning, and Two-Spirit, project falls under The Center’s Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) Access Points Project. The MAT Access Points Project is funding a network of organizations throughout California to address the opioid and stimulant use crisis by supporting and expanding prevention, education, stigma reduction, harm reduction, treatment and recovery services for people with opioid use disorder (OUD), stimulant use disorder and substance use disorder (SUD). Under this funding opportunity, LGBTQ2S+ organizations will develop or expand upon prevention and recovery services for OUD, stimulant use and SUD while creating tangible links to MAT services and treatment providers specifically within the LGBTQ2S+ community.
BHRS applied for funds to promote leadership development and policy advocacy with LGBTQ2S+ youth. The funds will be used to launch an education and media campaign to expand access to and community awareness of substance use and opioid use prevention and recovery services and programs for the LGBTQ2S+ community in Mendocino County, including a stigma-reduction campaign that will increase awareness, empathy, and knowledge of available support resources.
BHRS submitted the Opioid Use and Stimulant Use Prevention and Recovery Services in the LGBTQ2S+ Community Grant Application on January 28, 2022. Award decisions are anticipated to be released before March 1, 2022, and, if awarded funds, the County will use grant funds for the intended purpose.
