Summary of Request:
The Rural and Small Department Violent Crime Reduction Program awards grants on a competitive basis to small law enforcement agencies and prosecutors’ offices in rural locations to address the underlying crimes contributing to identified violent crime problems occurring in their jurisdictions. The anticipated maximum dollar amount of the award is $300,000. The period of performance begins on October 1, 2023 and has a duration of 36 months. If awarded, the Sheriff’s Office will use the grant funds to strategically install and implement license plate reader technology that will scan and report data to aid in the reduction of violent crime in Mendocino County.
On June 9, 2023, the Sheriff’s Office sent a letter to the CEO requesting approval to apply in order to meet the application deadline, as per County Policy 25, with follow-up to the Board of Supervisors at their next available meeting; of which the CEO approved on June 12, 2023.
