Summary of Request

The California Department of Health Care Services’ COVID-19 Mitigation Project will prevent, prepare for and respond to the COVID-19 public health emergency and ensure the continuity of services to support individuals connected to the behavioral health system, particularly those engaged in mental health disorders or substance use and co-occurring disorder prevention, early intervention, treatment and recovery service activities.

Behavioral Health and Recovery Services (BHRS) applied for funds to achieve healthy environments, necessary personal protective equipment (PPE), and rapid testing tools to stay open at full capacity to service Mendocino County’s vulnerable rural populations experiencing mental health disorders and/or substance use disorders. Funding would allow for the purchase of PPE and testing materials, air scrubbers to improve ventilation in older buildings to mitigate droplet spread, development of outreach materials, and the training of staff on administering rapid tests.

BHRS submitted the COVID-19 Mitigation for Behavioral Health Systems Grant Application on February 11, 2022. Award decisions are anticipated to be released in April 2022, and, if awarded funds, BHRS requests authorization for the BHRS Director to sign the resulting agreement which may have a start date of March 1. The County will use grant funds for the intended purpose.
