Summary of Request:
The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Office of Oral Health (OOH) provides funding to Local Oral Health Programs (LOHP) to support evidence-based oral disease prevention programs. Mendocino County Public Health (MCPH) has received this funding since 2017 and currently administers the LOHP for the 2022-2027 grant cycle.
The 2025 Mendocino County Oral Health Needs Assessment (NA), which was informed by the 2025 CHNA, revealed three major oral health challenges: limited access to care, low community oral health awareness and education that contributed to KOHA reporting issues, and persistent barriers for underserved populations. The LOHP’s proposed workplan and budget focuses on these three priority objectives aligned with the challenges identified in the NA. Sustainability will guide program decisions to ensure long-term support for County oral health needs.
MCPH created the proposed grant application for Advancing Oral Health Equity in California 2027-2030 Local Oral Health Program, submitted it to the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) on July 1, 2026, and is now seeking Board of Supervisors (BOS) ratification of application submission, and approval for the Health Services Director to execute the grant Agreement, if awarded. Through the grant Agreement, MCPH will use funds to maintain and sustain capacity at the local level to educate about oral health, prevent dental disease, and provide linkages to treatment programs, including dental disease caused by the use of cigarettes and other tobacco products.
Due to time constraints, the grant application was submitted to CDPH prior to BOS approval. MCPH is now seeking BOS ratification of the grant application, and authorization for the Health Services Director to execute the grant Agreement, if awarded.
