PREVIOUS BOARD/BOARD COMMITTEE ACTIONS:
The Board adopted Resolution No. 13-013 on February 12, 2013, re-establishing the Service Authority for Abandoned Vehicle Abatement.

On January 10, 2023, the Board adopted Resolution No. 23-009 to file a ten-year extension of the Abandoned Vehicle Abatement (AVA), Joint Powers Agreement (JPA) pursuant to Vehicle Code Sections 9250.7 and 22710 extending the agreement until February 2033.

On March 15, 2023, the Board adopted Resolution No. 23-063 to place a measure on the March 5, 2024, ballot to extend the collection of the Abandoned Vehicle Abatement Fee for a period of ten (10) years, pursuant to Vehicle Code sections 9250.7 and 22710.

SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
The County of Mendocino administers a State approved and funded Abandoned Vehicle Abatement Service Authority in partnership with the Cities of Ukiah, Fort Bragg, and Willits. The funding for this authority comes from a statutory $1 per vehicle registration fee approved by a local ballot measure. The Service Authority depends on funding for removal and dismantling of vehicles abandoned on public and private property throughout Mendocino County.
