RECOMMENDED ACTION/MOTION:
recommendation
Approve purchase of one (1) portable HAZMAT decontamination unit, in the amount of $21,216.43, to provide decontamination capacity to Adventist Health Mendocino Coast Hospital; and authorize the addition of items to the County's Fixed Asset list.
End

PREVIOUS BOARD/BOARD COMMITTEE ACTIONS:
None.

SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
In Fiscal Year 21-22, the Disaster Healthcare Coalition (DHCC) determined that there is inadequate HAZMAT decontamination capacity on the Mendocino Coast due in part to the decaying nature of their decontamination tent, which has become unusable. As such, the Emergency Department staff is vulnerable to contamination from a victim. With this proposed purchase, in addition to the decontamination trailer decommissioned from Mendocino County Environmental Health and subsequently provided to Adventist Health Mendocino Coast Hospital as the host site, the proper equipment necessary to respond safely to emergencies involving chemical contamination will be in place, thus enabling Adventist Health Mendocino Coast Hospital to conduct staff and DHCC training on the appropriate use of such equipment.

ALTERNATIVE ACTION/MOTION:
Return to staff for alternative handling.
