PREVIOUS BOARD/BOARD COMMITTEE ACTIONS:
By Resolution Number (No.) 07-009 (January 9, 2007) the Board authorized the Director of Transportation to execute change orders pursuant to section 20142 of the California Public Contract Code, subject to certain cost limitations.

SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
Public Contract Code section 20142 allows for the Board of Supervisors to authorize the county engineer or other county officer, to order changes or additions in the work being performed under construction contracts, subject to certain cost limitations. We are requesting the Board authorize the Director of Transportation or Purchasing Agent, as specified, to execute contract change orders, as designated in Public Contract Code Section 20142, including any future amendments, to allow for timely execution during construction. Change orders above the limits set forth in 20142 must be approved by the Board of Supervisors.

ALTERNATIVE ACTION/MOTION:
Do not authorize the Purchasing Agent or Director of Transportation to execute contract change orders subject to the current and future cost limitations of California Public Contract Code section 20142.
