RECOMMENDED ACTION/MOTION:

Approve retroactive Fresh Fruit and Vegetable EBT Pilot Allocation from the Department of Food and Agriculture in the amount of $250,000 for continuation of the fresh fruit and vegetable EBT pilot in Mendocino as part of the Legislative Budget Act 2023, effective October 2, 2024 through September 30, 2029; authorize the County of Mendocino Director of Health Services to accept and sign the allocation and any future amendments that do not increase the total maximum amount; and authorize the Chair to sign same.

SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
As part of the Legislative Budget Act 2023, the County of Mendocino Women's Infants and Children (WIC) program has been allocated $250,000 for the continuation of Fresh Fruit and Vegetable EBT Pilot in Mendocino.

Allocation of these funds would be a great benefit for both the WIC Program office and the WIC participants. It will allow the WIC Program to provide, educational handouts, tools and kits on healthy living. Will also support the WIC office on having more funds to reach more people in the community in all type of events out of work hours. There will more possibilities in providing needs for families in the community outreach events, providing stuff such as cups, plates, grocery bags and healthy snacks.
