Summary of Request:
The Board is asked to recognize the World Polio Torch Relay and the Rotary Clubs of Fort Bragg,
Mendocino and Gualala, which will carry the torch through their coastal communities on Oct 10, 2026 and
Oct 11, 2026. The coastal events are part of Rotary District 5130’s relay from Crescent City to Petaluma,
running from Oct 2, 2026, through Oct 24, 2026, World Polio Day.

On Saturday, the Fort Bragg segment begins at 10 a.m. at MacKerricher State Park and follows the
Coastal Trail to Todd’s Point for the handoff to Mendocino. Mendocino’s bicycle relay begins at
approximately 1 p.m., travels along the coast and through the Village, and ends at Rotary Park, where a
community celebration will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. Gualala’s segment begins Sunday at approximately
11 a.m.

The relay raises awareness and funds for Rotary’s worldwide polio eradication effort. Sponsorship
opportunities are available across all three coastal segments, with 100 percent of sponsorship proceeds
supporting the polio campaign. Eligible Rotary Polio contributions are matched two-to-one by the Gates
Foundation.
