PREVIOUS BOARD/BOARD COMMITTEE ACTIONS:
No previous board action. This grant project was discussed by Supervisor McGourty during the Supervisors' Reports at the December 7, 2021 meeting.

SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
Staff time is being requested to assist a coalition of grant writers interested in community fire safety to prepare and submit a planning grant should an opportunity arises.

This project will plan emergency only ingress/egress routes for eastern hills communities of Deer Wood, El Dorado, and Vichy Hills neighborhoods on neighboring undeveloped properties. Presently these identified neighborhoods are only accessed by Redemeyer Road (one way in, one way out.) Emergency only routes would be planned for construction with county road easements consisting of gated and graded ranch service roads that would be parallel to Redemeyer Road on the eastern side of these developed subdivision areas. These routes would ultimately exit south to Sanford Ranch Road. The plan would create CSA 3 funding "Zone of Benefit" model to maintain roads, gates and signs. Permanent emergency only ingress/egress easements would be negotiated for these properties by the County. The project would serve as a template for other neighborhoods needing emergency only right of ways in Mendocino County.
