SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
The purpose of the Agreement between Department of Healthcare Services (DHCS) and each County Welfare Department/Agency (CWD) is to ensure the security and privacy of Medi-Cal Personally Identifiable Information (PII) contained in the Medi-Cal Eligibility Data System (MEDS), California Statewide Automated Welfare System (CalSAWS), the Income and Eligibility Verification System (IEVS), and in data received from the Social Security Administration (SSA) and other sources. Because counties have access to SSA-provided information, SSA requires that DHCS enter into individual agreements with the counties to safeguard this information. All 58 CWDs are required to sign the 2024 Agreement to ensure the continued transmission of PII between the counties and DHCS.
