RECOMMENDED ACTION/MOTION:

Authorize transmission of the updated Mendocino Historic Preservation District Inventory to the Planning and Building Department for review; and direct staff to return to the Board with to discuss the process to formally revise Appendix 1 of Mendocino Town Plan, Chapter 4.13 of the Coastal Element of the General Plan.

PREVIOUS BOARD/BOARD COMMITTEE ACTIONS:
October 2017 adoption of the updated Chapter 4.13 of the Coastal Element of the General Plan and related appendices.

SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
The Mendocino Town Plan currently includes as an appendix an Inventory of Historic Structures originally developed in 1979 and incorporated into the Coastal Element, which acknowledged at the time that the inventory was incomplete.

A group of community volunteers, including former Kelley House Museum leadership and local historians, has completed a comprehensive update to this inventory. The updated inventory compiles structures within the Mendocino Historic Preservation District (Zone A) and includes documented sources supporting the earliest known construction dates for each property, based on verifiable records such as Sanborn maps, aerial photography, newspaper archives, and County records.
