PREVIOUS BOARD/BOARD COMMITTEE ACTIONS:
The Board routinely adopts Proclamations recognizing special events and meritorious achievements.

SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
Mendocino County and the US Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) wants to be sure parents are doing everything possible to protect our nation's youngest passengers. In 2021, 710 children (under 13) were killed in passenger vehicles and more than 100,000 were injured.

Mendocino County is recognizing September 17 - 23, 2023 as Child Passenger Safety Week. Car seats, booster seats, and seat belts have been proven effective in reducing crash fatalities among children. All 50 states, the District of Columbia, and all U.S. territories require the use of car seats for children traveling in motor vehicles. Citizens in Mendocino County can receive support from the Mendocino County Department of Public Health regarding car seats and booster seats to ensure children are in the right car seats for their ages and sizes, and that the seats are installed correctly.
