RECOMMENDED ACTION/MOTION:

Ratify submission of acceptance letter for retroactive funding from California Department of Social Services in the amount of $429,171, and request for additional funding in the amount of $500,000, for a total maximum amount of $929,171, for administration of California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids, Housing Support Program, effective July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2024; authorize the Social Services Director or designee to sign any future amendments related to the funding that do not increase the total maximum amount; and authorize Chair to sign same.

SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
The Budget Act of 2023 (SB 101, Chapter 12, Statutes of 2023) approved the annual, ongoing appropriation of $95 million available for the California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs), Housing Support Program (HSP), available for expenditure July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2025. HSP was established in 2014 by SB 855 (Chapter 29, Statutes of 2014) and allowed for counties to submit proposals for plans to operate HSPs in accordance with the core components of Housing First, to foster housing stability for CalWORKs families experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
