SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
On May 30, 2024, the FY 2024 State Criminal Alien Assistance Program (SCAAP) solicitation was released. Under this program, the Office of Justice Programs of the DOJ reimburses state and local governments for costs incurred due to the incarceration of undocumented criminal aliens during FY 2022-23. In order to meet the funding criteria, one felony or two misdemeanor convictions must have resulted from the charges related to the applicable incarceration period. Funding will be determined by the DOJ BJA during the selection process and applicants will be notified at a later date.

On July 1, 2024, the Sheriff's Office sent a letter to the CEO requesting approval to apply in order to meet the application deadline of July 15, 2024, as per County Policy 25, with follow-up to the Board of Supervisors at their next available meeting. The CEO approved the request on July 1, 2024.
