SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
Mendocino County's Department of Social Services, Adult and Aging Services is requesting that the Mendocino County Board of Supervisors proclaim November 2023, as National Family Caregivers Month.
Proclaiming November as National Family Caregivers Month recognizes those who contribute to the well-being of their loved ones and those who work each day to ensure a better quality of life for their family members, friends, and clients. Family and professional caregivers help with health care and other physical needs of patients while making it possible for those receiving care, to remain at home among loved ones.
In Home Supportive Services (IHSS) has provided an option for some of our most vulnerable aged and disabled population to receive care in their own homes. This care helps to reduce safety risks, hospitalizations, and placement in long-term care skilled nursing facilities.
Mendocino County has 1,817 IHSS caregivers, and 956, or 52%, of those caregivers are relatives to the recipients of IHSS.
