SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
This 2026 Hazard Mitigation Plan is an update to the 2020 Hazard Mitigation Plan. The plan outlines strategies to reduce risks from hazards such as wildfires, floods, drought, earthquakes, tsunamis, and severe weather, while enhancing community resilience, protecting lives and property, and lowering long-term recovery costs. It covers the entire county, including the unincorporated communities of Fort Bragg, Point Arena, Ukiah, and Willits, as well as special districts, including the Covelo Fire Protection District, the Mendocino County Office of Education, the Noyo Harbor District, and the Redwood Coast Fire Protection District.

The plan update was led by the Prevention, Recovery, Resiliency, and Mitigation (PRRM) and OES team in the Executive Office, along with the consultant Synergy Disaster Recovery. The plan is reviewed and approved by CalOES and FEMA in July 2026 and pending local adoptions. The project was 100% funded by the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP).

ALTERNATIVE ACTION/MOTION:
Return to staff for alternative handling.
