PREVIOUS BOARD/BOARD COMMITTEE ACTIONS:
The Board of Supervisors last amended Mendocino County Code Section 3.12.030 by Ordinance No. 4349 on February 2, 2016.

SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
The Mendocino County Board of Supervisors has established a Vehicle Use Ordinance (Mendocino County Code 3.12 - The County Vehicle Policy). This ordinance makes clarifying changes regarding the procedure to be used for tracking, accounting and reporting on the daily use of County vehicles, including that information is to be compiled by the Chief Executive Office instead of by individual departments and clarifying that the information to be tracked includes, but is not limited to, the vehicle identification number, date, miles driven or hours used, and destination(s). The Sheriff's Office and the District Attorney were previously exempt from any vehicle reporting or tracking system; this ordinance also provides that the Public Defender, Probation Department, Social Services Investigative Unit and Department of Transportation are similarly exempt. The ordinance also makes clarifying changes regarding the use of a County vehicle to transport non-County employees.

ALTERNATIVE ACTION/MOTION:
Do not approve and provide alternate direction to staff.
