Accept the informational report from Planning and Building Services regarding California Assembly Bill 2533 (AB-2533), which establishes a statewide amnesty program to support the legalization of non-permitted Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU) and Junior ADUs built or converted prior to January 1, 2020.

Summary of Request:
Planning and Building Services has prepared an informational memo on Assembly Bill 2533 (AB-2533) including requirements of the bill that the Department must satisfy, relevant Code Enforcement-related statistics and code enforcement processes to address non-permitted ADUs and JADUs and Code Enforcement’s role to adhere to the requirements of the bill, provide clarification on the state’s approach to AB-2533 as a statewide amnesty program compared to previously offered amnesty programs by the County of Mendocino in recent years. The memo will also address identified areas of improvements and additional steps the Department can take to ensure that the information and available resources are adequately communicated to the public.
