SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Publication 1075 outlines security and safeguarding requirements for agencies, including local governments, with access to Federal Tax Information (FTI). As part of these requirements, all individuals, including employees, contractors, and volunteers, who have access to FTI must undergo a background investigation that includes fingerprinting and criminal history checks, and a reinvestigation every five (5) years thereafter.
Human Resources has developed a formal policy to ensure consistent implementation of these federal requirements across all departments. The policy outlines the procedures for identifying individuals, initiating background checks, and maintaining compliance following IRS Publication 1075 standards.
