RECOMMENDED ACTION/MOTION:

PREVIOUS BOARD/BOARD COMMITTEE ACTIONS:
On April 25, 2023, this Board adopted an amended Master Fee schedule which included the fee increase included in the proposed ordinance. On May 23, 2023, the Board introduced and waived the first reading of the ordinance.

SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
The Sheriff's Office processes applications for carry conceal weapons ("CCW") licenses, including initial applications, renewals and modifications. The Sheriff's Office uses a software program to process these applications. The cost of the software has recently increased such that the $25.00 statutory limit for renewal applications and $10.00 statutory limit for modifications no longer covers the County's cost in processing renewal applications.

Pursuant to California Government Code section 54985, a County may, by ordinance, increase a fee charged for a service in an amount reasonably necessary to cover the cost of providing the service, notwithstanding any provision of law that otherwise limits the amount that may be charged. The Sheriff's Office proposes this ordinance to increase by $4.00 the fee charged for CCW renewals and modifications, in order to cover the cost of providing these services.

ALTERNATIVE ACTION/MOTION:
Provide direction to staff.
