RECOMMENDED ACTION/MOTION:
recommendation
Approve request for appropriation of funds and authorize the purchase of two handheld narcotics analyzer devices in the total amount of $89,860.64; add the devices to the County's list of fixed assets; and authorize Chair to sign same.
End

PREVIOUS BOARD/BOARD COMMITTEE ACTIONS:
None.

SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
The Sheriff's Office requests authorization to purchase two TruNarc Delta handheld narcotics analyzers to replace existing units that have reached end-of-life, have become increasingly unreliable, and no longer meet operational support requirements. The analyzers are imperative safety equipment for law enforcement as they offer narcotics testing without direct contact with most substances. This protects against accidental and unintentional exposures to dangerous drugs that can and have caused law enforcement personnel to experience overdose symptoms when handling and testing narcotics without these devices. The devices will provide rapid, on-scene identification of suspected controlled substances, enhancing staff ability to respond to drug-related incidents, improving investigative efficiency, and supporting timely evidence processing.

ALTERNATIVE ACTION/MOTION:
Return to staff for alternate handling.
