Adopt the Resolution to place a measure on the March 5, 2024, ballot to extend the collection of the Abandoned Vehicle Abatement Fee for a period of ten (10) years, pursuant to Vehicle Code sections 9250.7 and 22710; and authorize Chair to Sign Same.

PREVIOUS BOARD/BOARD COMMITTEE ACTIONS:
The Board approved Resolution No. 12-104 on July 24, 2012, authorizing the placement of Measure G on the November 6, 2012, ballot to extend collection of vehicle registration fees, known as the AVA Fee, of one-dollar ($1.00) for a period of ten (10) years requiring a two-thirds (2/3) vote, which was subsequently approved by the Mendocino County registered voters at an eighty percent (80%) approval in support of the measure. On January 10, 2023, the Board adopted Resolution No. 23-009, supporting the extension of the AVA Program until February 2033.
SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
The passing of Measure G on November 6, 2012, allowed for the County of Mendocino to collect an AVA fee of one-dollar ($1.00) (two dollars ($2.00) for certain commercial vehicles) through the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) in order to recover a significant portion of the costs of abating abandoned and wrecked vehicles within the County.
