Previous Board/Board Committee Actions:
Chapter 2.68 of the Mendocino County Code authorizes the Mendocino County Board of Supervisors to appoint the Mendocino County Resource Conservation District Board of Directors.
Summary of Request:
The Mendocino County Resource Conservation District (MCRCD) is a non-regulatory, local agency supporting voluntary stewardship of natural resources on wild and working landscapes. Serving landowners since 1945, MCRCD is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors comprised of local landowners, which meets on the third Tuesday of every month. MCRCD staff collaborates with private and public landowners to address natural resource concerns on their properties. 100% of MCRCD’s annual funding comes from local, state and federal grant programs, professional service agreements, and tax-deductible donations. The RCD consistently seeks to diversify revenue sources to mitigate for the inherent risk in our funding structure. MCRCD plays a key role in maintaining the County’s compliance with California Statewide Groundwater Elevation Monitoring (CASGEM) and supporting the County in its work on National Pollutant Discharge Elimination Systems (NPDES) through “outreach & education” and “planning & assessment.” Dave Koball, Board Chair, will provide the Board of Supervisors with an informational presentation on current activities of the MCRCD. The MCRCD’s recently published “Rare and Endangered Plant Field Guide for Timber Harvest Plans in Coastal Mendocino County” is included as supplemental material.
