SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
As equipment ages out it needs to be replaced. The live scan machine located in the Mendocino County Jail, men's booking section, is prone to break downs that occur more and more frequently as the machine gets older. This causes interruptions to the booking process at the jail. The automated fingerprint ID account receives weekly transfers collected from fines which equate to approximately .50 cents for every $10.00 collected. These funds are kept in Budget Unit 2110 and are used for costs related to upkeep and replacement of live scan machines. The County Rural Area Network (RAN) Board, composed of county law enforcement, a Board of Supervisor member, Probation and District Attorney, oversees the funding and requests for maintenance and/or replacement of equipment. At their January 12, 2017 meeting the RAN Board heard a report and request from the Mendocino County Sheriff Office (MCSO) regarding the jail's live scan machine. RAN advised the MCSO to secure quotes and conduct an email poll and vote of RAN members to designate the funds for a replacement live scan machine.
