Summary of Request

Health and Human Services Agency, California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs) Job Services provides employment and training services to recipients and applicants of the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program. The Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program is a federally funded program that promotes job preparation and employment for families to become self- sufficient. CalWORKs Job Services provides funding for job development services as part of a broader commitment to families in need.

Ford Street Project will provide a comprehensive and intensive vocational and living skills program to participants referred by CalWORKs Job Services that leads directly to employment and contributes to employment retention. The vocational program includes twenty (20) individual classes focused on: Employer Expectations, Employer/Employee Rights, Employment Skills, Family & Relationships, Gardening Skills & Education, Commercial & Home Kitchen Skills, Home Budgeting, and Food Service Certification.

Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) submitted this Agreement and a second Agreement for approval by the Board of Supervisors on June 18, 2019.  The June 18th agenda item was rejected because the Agreements could not be combined onto one agenda item.  This process necessitated a retroactive start date.
