Summary of Request:
The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) provides funds to the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program of the Health and Human Services Agency, Public Health Branch, to support pregnant, breastfeeding, or postpartum women and their children. These funds enable the WIC program to provide services to help mothers and young children stay healthy. Qualifying WIC participants are eligible to receive nutrition education, vouchers for nutritious food, breastfeeding support, and referrals to medical providers and community services. WIC currently provides these supportive services at nine locations throughout the County.
The original revenue Agreement No. 15-10071 from CDPH to support Mendocino County’s WIC program from October 1, 2015 through September 30, 2019, expired on September 30, 2019. This new Agreement in the amount of $2,861,640 is a renewal revenue Agreement, and will enable Mendocino County’s WIC program to continue providing local services to qualified individuals from October 1, 2019 to September 30, 2022, specifically nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and complimentary food to eligible pregnant and postpartum women, infants and children up to 5 years old.
