October 1, 2019, Agreement No. 19-229, Item No. 4(j).
Summary of Request:
On July 11, 2017, the Board of Supervisors (BOS) approved the grant Agreement with California Department of Health Care Services (CDHCS) in the amount of $400,000 to implement the Strategic Prevention Framework Partnerships for Success Strategies (SPF PFS) relating to Opioid Abuse Prevention from July 1, 2017 through June 30, 2021. Grant funds are used for preventing opioid abuse, especially among youth and underserved populations, as well as in the general population.
On September 12, 2017, the BOS approved the revised grant agreement for SPF PFS, including a revised budget with increased funds for Public Awareness. These extra funds were used through the original contract with Mendocino County Youth Project (MCYP). MCYP has participated in PFS grant activities in previous years and has an agreement with local schools to provide opioid prevention services in County Junior and High Schools. Through this amendment, MCYP modified the language of the opioid education curriculum to ensure it is culturally and linguistically appropriate, age-relevant and evidence based. The curriculum will be presented during regular school hours and after school in the community.
Health and Human Services Agency presented the original Agreement to this Board on October 1, 2019, but did not request authority to sign zero dollar amendments. Today’s requested Board action allows approval of the amendment and gives Health and Human Services Agency director or designee authority to sign future amendments that do not increase the overall amount.
