Summary of Request

Agreement #SO-S18-001/PA 18-55 with Eversole Mortuary was entered into on September 22, 2017 for a three year term. The funds of $50,000 were projected and budgeted for over a three year period that will end June 30, 2020.  The bulk of the existing contract is based upon an estimate of Coroner's Cases, requiring autopsy, based on the previous year. These services are paid by case, for the use of the facility. There are minor charges for storage and transportation costs but those are minimal. We have seen a marked increase in the overall number of cases this quarter compared to the first quarter of 2019. To date the first quarter of this year has shown an estimated 20% increase in the overall case load and a 66% increase in the cases requiring autopsy. This is, in part, due to a marked increase in drug related deaths, accidents, and suicides. These increases has caused us to exceed our yearly projections related to services provided by this contract. These services are currently under a current Request for Proposal (RFP) process that closes on March 31, 2020 and new contracts will result from that process effective July 1, 2020.  In order to provide services without interruption it is necessary to amend the current contract with funds in the amount of $50,000 bringing the total amount of the contract to $100,000.
