Proclamation for National Public Safety Telecommuicators (Dispatchers) Week in Mendocino County was approved by the Board on March 26, 2019

SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
Public Safety Telecommunicators (aka Dispatchers) are often the first link between the public and first responders. Their job is to quickly assess the call, the situation, the need and who to best fill the need; they also dispatch the required help and then monitor radio frequencies to assure the safety of the first responders. At times they are required to coordinate with other dispatch centers, hand off calls in a timely manner if necessary and all the while enter data into complicated computer systems and software. As if all of those requirements are not enough, they must remain calm, collected, courteous and professional while helping the caller who is having a very bad day. They may need to direct the caller to perform life-saving tasks while awaiting help. The service must be covered 24/7, 365 days a year under any circumstance. This past year dispatchers had to keep things running with alternate power sources during the PGE PSPS power outages. With great thanks and appreciation, Mendocino County recognizes all Public Safety Telecommunicators at work in our county for a job well done.
