Summary of Request:
The National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence began Alcohol Awareness Month in April 1987, to increase outreach and education regarding the dangers of alcoholism and issues related to alcohol. Although Alcohol Awareness Month initially focused on college-aged students, it has since become a national movement to increase awareness and understanding of the effects of alcoholism in general.
During April, the Health and Human Services Agency, Behavioral Health and Recovery Services, will provide red ribbons and education to the community to raise awareness around the causes and effects of alcoholism.
