Approve Agreement with Ford Street Project in the amount of $103,680 to provide a vocational program for California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids Participants for the Period of July 1, 2020 through June 30, 2021; authorize the Health and Human Services Agency Director or designee to sign any future amendments to the Agreement that do not increase the annual maximum amount; and authorize Chair to sign same.

Summary of Request

Health and Human Services Agency, California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs) Job Services provides employment and training services to recipients and applicants of the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program. The TANF program is a federally funded program that promotes job preparation and employment for families to become self-sufficient. CalWORKs Job Services provides funding for job development services as part of a broader commitment to families in need.

 

As part of the TANF program, Ford Street Project will provide a comprehensive and intensive vocational and living skills program to CalWORKs Job Services participants that leads directly to employment and contributes to employment retention. These services will be offered as part of the Family Stabilization Program and will work in conjunction with the Subsidized Employment Program, allowing the participants to prepare for subsidized employment placements upon the successful completion of the vocational program. The vocational program includes twenty (20) individual rotational classes focused on: Employer Expectations; Employer/Employee Rights; Employment Skills; Family and Relationships; Gardening Skills and Education; Commercial and Home Kitchen Skills; Home Budgeting; and Food Service Certification.
