Previous Board/Board Committee Actions:

The Board of Supervisors annually adopts a Proclamation recognizing May as Mental Health Month (Previous Board Action May 7, 2019, Item No. 4(f))

Summary of Request

May has been recognized as Mental Health Awareness Month by Mental Health America since 1949. Today, organizations throughout the United States observe Mental Health Awareness Month by providing outreach activities to raise awareness for mental health and draw attention to the resources available to treat mental illness. The reading of Proclamations assists in promoting community awareness. During May 2020, the Health and Human Services Agency, Behavioral Health and Recovery Services (BHRS), will increase activities to raise awareness of mental health concerns, and to highlight services and resources available in the County.  BHRS asks the Board of Supervisors to proclaim May as Mental Health Awareness Month to support public awareness and educational activities during the month.
