Summary of Request

The California Office of Traffic Safety’s (OTS) mission is to effectively and efficiently administer traffic safety grants while fostering partnerships to deliver innovative programs that reduce deaths, injuries, and economic losses. Health and Human Services Agency, Public Health, Community Wellness program, submitted an application in January 2020 requesting funding from OTS to partner with North Coast Opportunities, Walk and Bike Mendocino, to conduct best practice strategies to reduce the number of persons killed and injured in crashes involving pedestrians and bicyclists. The funded strategies may include classroom education, bicycle rodeos, community events, presentations, and workshops. These countermeasures will be conducted in communities with high numbers of pedestrian and/or bicycle related crashes including underserved communities, older adults, and school-aged children.

Health and Human Services Agency received a notice of tentative approval for the grant application on June 10, 2020 from OTS. The tentative award is contingent on approval from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
